5A PROFESSIONAL'S 35MM WONDER CHOICE  Sep 28, 2007
The Leica Company made this camera based largely upon a wish list from professional photographers.
For those who love the simplicity and style of the "M" series, this camera will appear to be unwieldy. It is NOT unwieldy. Handle it. Shoot with it. It is an electro-mechanical wonder, and it is for the pros.
I shoot for National Geographic. I always have my M6, but I take my R9 for the really tough shots, and the shots I think may make cover page.
A WIDE range of lenses, all photoelectrically linked to the Mitsubishi computer chip in the strong housing of the camera.
You may use the automatic shutter, film speed, and aperture program. It is excellent. I use manual, or shutter priority or aperture priority, and manual focus.
But the auto feature for gymnastic shots like hanging from a tree, or urgent shooting is truly excellent. It fits the hands well, and its advance and button layout is excellent. The lenses (16mm to 400+mm) are as accurate as the "M"s, (after all, it is a Leica) but larger for the most part in the telephoto range, and it can use R8 or earlier lenses. The wide angle lenses are a reportage, marine, and architectural photographers dream, and when used correctly, show so little "pincushion" and other angle abberations that you will scarcely believe it. Speeds from 8000th of a second up to two seconds. Rugged. A wonder.
Professionals, you must try this work of art.
